Update on "Uh, that post title looked really familiar"

I wrote to the hosting company about the post and boy did they respond quickly - over a holiday too!

Hello.

We have sent the complaint to the person to remove the content and have given them 12 hours. If they fail to comply, we will suspend their services.

Is this resolution sufficient for you, if they remove the content?

We will suspend their services if you request it.

Best Regards,
Daniel

Now I surely don't want to be the one to have that persons' service suspended - not in light of all we've been going thru (although I am in no way comparing that site to AW) but I did respond that I was thankful for their prompt reply and that I was sure they'd do the right thing if there were more complaints.

I'd say HostGator is a very cool company. Thank you Daniel and kudos to HostGator!

Fantastic! I'm so glad it worked so well, Dawno!

I have to admit that I'm curious about how much of the rest of that site's content is stolen. From the brief browsing I did, it appeared there was no original content - it was all stolen the same way yours was.

Personally, I'd be inclined to either a. shut the site down or b. alert the hosting company that all the content appears stolen so that they can investigate it or c. go to the original site for all the content and alert them that their content has been copied.

I know you've got the solution you want - your content will be removed, and that's excellent - but what about everyone else's content that he stole? The others may not even know that their content has been stolen.

I can understand why you're reluctant to ask that his site be shut down in light of the whole AW thing - I completely understand that. I'm just wondering about all the other victims. You know what I mean?

Yep, I do know what you mean. I recently advised several non profit sites that their content had been copied and pasted and used in a for profit book, gave them the evidence as well. Never heard back. It kinda put me off the crusade.

Maybe once this has all settled down I'll do something...I just don't have enough energy for another project.

Yeah, I understand that, too. There's been a lot of stuff going on... And I'm way in love with my ellipses... :D

Well, I ended up going back to crapola plagiarist's site and clicked on all of his links to "this was originally posted to..." If the people at the other end of the post are tech savvy, they'll see the link in their stats and look it up.

I looked for email addies to alert the other people, but couldn't find any. Well, fine, you don't want me to alert you when you're stuff is plagiarized, that's yer problem.

I tried. *shrugs* What else is there to do?

Well, if they're anything like the non-profits I've worked with, they're staffed by nicotine-deprived caffeine addicts just trying to keep it all together for another day. ;) Someone heard you, I'm sure.

Cao, I surely understand, I've been on local boards for both the American Heart Assoc. and the Arthritis Assoc. I had just hoped that one of the people I contacted would be concerned and do something. *sigh*

Found my content used on some weird link aggregating site about cruises. No clue to how to get to the hosting company though - used whois and everything but couldn't find a contact. Oh well...

Differences between Dawno and BB:
1) Dawno's complaint had merit
2) The ISP concerned had sense
3) Dawno did not threaten the ISP with a $1B lawsuit
4)Dawno acted sensibly
)Dawno's pics do not require Oakley Thermonuclear protection.

Your Blog is now Bookmarked :D

Dawno, you could try contacting the guy over at Plagiarism Today for help - he commented on my blog entry about your problem and suggested we contact him if we needed to. It's worth a try. :)

What a great site, Laurie! Thanks.

Although I must admit to having a little moment of mirth - I used to read "Christianity Today" and I had this mental image of sincere plagiarists writing articles about how to spread the plagiarizing gospel...etc. I will have to add that one to my blogroll!

Yeah, I read that comment in your most recent post - I laughed! What a great image!

I hope you get all your plagiarism issues resolved.
